The Story of Hazel's Blown & Cut Glass Factory
As stories of Carrie Nation grew throughout the eastern United States, it was rumored she was breaking all of the glass west of the Mississippi. Hearing this, a glass blower and a glass cutter from West Virginia decided to make their fortune restocking glassware in the Ozarks.
Together they set up shop at Silver Dollar City. The master glass blower took great pride in training apprentices to blow glass in the "free-blown" style, using no molds to shape the work, only the craftsman's skill. The glass cutter loved his new home so much, that he decided to etch the beautiful scenery and colorful stories of the Ozark Mountains, to be forever preserved in sparkling glassware.
People came from miles around to watch them produce incredible works of art. The glass factory became a fascinating stop for all travelers passing through town. Travelers wishing to take a piece home with them could make their selection in Hazel's Blown & Cut Glass shop. Hazel would wrap each masterpiece with exact care to protect it on the trip home. That tradition continues today.
