The Story of Christmas Hollow
Growing up in the Ozarks wasn't easy for big families. The girls at Christmas Hollow can tell you all about it, as they grew up with Mom and Dad and SEVEN brothers! The summers were long and the winters were cold, and Christmas was their favorite time of the year. Pa and the boys would go out into the hills in search of the perfect tree, while Ma and the girls stayed home cooking their favorite holiday dishes and making homemade ornaments. Every Christmas they would have wild turkey or venison, sweet potatoes, and fruitcake! When the men returned, they would all decorate the tree, stringing popcorn and berries, and hanging the ornaments. After dinner, the whole family would bundle up and head to church to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
As the girls grew up, one by one they were sent to St. Louis to live with family and attend finishing school. They missed the Ozarks-but most of all they missed Christmas at home. They returned to Silver Dollar City, and decided to celebrate Christmas all of the time. At first, the folks around here thought they were crazy, but pretty soon they found themselves helping the girls. Everyone searched for the most beautiful ornaments and gifts from all over the world, and some of the local woodworkers and glassblowers began creating ornaments for them. The girls keep Christmas alive in their hearts all year around and people who visit Christmas Hollow take a little bit of Christmas home with them too.
