Float trips and fishing are two of the main reasons that this Ozarks region became a popular tourist destination. Ever since the turn of the century there have been fishing guides and guided float trips all along the James and White rivers. Jim Owen was the first, and best known, of all the guides on these waterways. Vacationers loved to catch the fish that only he could find, and listen to his many tales by the campfire at night.
