Sarah Gamble
Senior Potter

Sarah's youthful appearance belies the talent and creativity she possesses.

A Craftsman In The Making
Sarah first learned to throw clay while attending Fontbonne College in St. Louis, Missouri, as a history major. "It was positive peer pressure from a friend that got me started," she explains.

The Silver Dollar City Years
After graduation in 1999, Gamble began making pottery at Silver Dollar City’s Hillcreek Pottery. "I was lucky to work with Todd Nelson in my early years. He taught me to be more confident with what I created," she said. Sarah’s youthful appearance and disarming manner draws children close and makes them brave enough to ask questions. But as you listen to her answers and watch her demonstrations, you begin to understand the talent and creativity she possesses.

Potters at Hillcreek Pottery produce approximately 200 pieces per week and use 30 tons of clay a year. "Working here gives me a good chance to make a lot of pottery, which has allowed me to develop my own style," Gamble said, adding, "I try to make pieces that are graceful and delicate while also being sturdy and functional." Guest favorites including vases, mugs, pie plates and other bake ware such as casseroles and nesting bowls are kept in stock. But ask Sarah her favorite and she’ll say, "To complete a dinnerware set that has been special ordered by a guest, and make the colors stack up just right with all the pieces the same size is very gratifying."

Interesting Extras
Besides developing her own creative style and interacting with guests, working at Silver Dollar City offered an additional perk for Sarah. "I would never have met my husband if I hadn’t worked here," she says. "My supervisor introduced us."
